Operating through its wholly-owned subsidiary Torpedo Sports, Inc. of Canada, the Company is a manufacturer and distributor of outdoor recreational products for children, such as toboggans, baby sleds, snowboards, skateboards, tricycles and scooters.
Originally founded in 1942, Torpedo Sports' first product was a four-wheel wood wagon for kids. COMPANY BUSINESS SUMMARY
A market leader in many of its product categories, all of Torpedo's products compete in the value-for-money segment of their respective markets and are recognized for their quality manufacturing.
Torpedo Sports' line of winter products includes 5 basic groups: Wood toboggans, wood baby sleds, steel runners sleds, plastic sleds and snowboards. In addition, Torpedo manufactures a line of summer products including skateboards, scooter and tricycles.
Torpedo has an exceptional ability to develop and improve products. The most recent example is a steel-edge snowboard, which was developed internally. Torpedo is able to fix steel-edges to an injection molded plastic board, at a very low cost. This children's snowboard is presently the only one of its' kind allowed in ski stations.
Torpedo operates two plants in the Province of Quebec, Canada. The St - Narcisse plant is equipped for woodworking and metal stamping. As such, this 55,000 square foot facility produces wooden toboggans, wooden baby sleds and steel runner sleds. The Montreal plant is an injection molding facility with 7 large machines with capacity ranging in size from 900 to 1200 tons. This equipment allows the company, using a wide variety of molds, to make most of its plastic products.
Strong commitment to retailers and customer service is a key to Torpedo's marketing strategy. The support to its' extensive retail network includes display materials and brochures, quick delivery, merchandising advice as well as a competitive pricing policy, special seasonal bookings and discounts. An important element of Torpedo's marketing program is its catalogue where each single product is shown together with all the required information. The catalogue is a tool for selling as well as reordering. The catalogue and updates are supported in-house with computers, a photo studio and a lab.
